EXAMS AND EYECARE

Our eye examinations provide you with the highest standards of quality visual care. Our exams also focus on your special needs and identified risk factors.

THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY

Our exam process has changed over the years to take advantage new instrumentation in the eye exam process. Our patients often mention that there is a different ordering of their exam routine plus more “cool” instruments than previous exams.

With increased knowledge of the eyes and the applied instrumentation, the days of one exam room with one or two instruments for your complete visual exam are past. Thus you will often need to be escorted to several diagnostic rooms within our office during your examination process allowing us to more fully utilize new specialized instrumentation.

DEDICATION TO SATISFACTION

We are dedicated to continually improving our exam process for our patients. At the end of your exam, we will ask you to share with us your impressions and recommendations by filling out our Patient Satisfaction Survey.

THE ONLINE PROCESS

We have worked hard to extend our availability to you online to gather necessary forms and questionnaires even before you come into our office for your eye examination.

THE OFFICE PROCESS

When you visit us for an eye exam, our testing will start with an advanced measuring system. This allows us to provide you with very accurate glasses and contact lens prescriptions. We use high-magnification systems and the newest electronic instruments to evaluate the health of your eyes.

We take the time to share with you your complete exam results, treatment options, and recommendations.

RETURNING PATIENT EXAM PROCESS

There are many benefits as a returning patient to our office especially in the area of digital technology. Our professional staff can utilize complex medical technologies to digitally compare current eye health exam findings with those from your last exam to critically detect subtle eye health changes.

Through the use of cutting edge technologies we are now able to enhance the eye disease detection of our exam process for all of our patients. If you are a returning patient we will again capture a digital retinal photograph of your eyes, which will be compared to the digital photograph taken at your last visit. Comparison technologies assist us in detecting even the subtlest retinal change, thereby allowing us to uncover progressive eye changes earlier than ever before.

Preparing for Your Exam

As we have continued to make changes to improve your eyecare experience, we have found that knowing about your unique visual needs and personal eye and health history even before you come to the office helps us serve you better.

Information we Need
The following is basic information we need from you:

  • Your complete health history including family history of any major eye diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts.

  • A list of any eye injuries or eye diseases you have had.

  • A list of the medications you currently are taking and any drug reactions or allergies you have experienced. It is also valuable to know any herbal and over- the-counter medications you are taking.

  • A list of any concerns you have about your eyes or vision.

BENEFITS TO YOU

We have found that by having this information before your actual exam we can spend more time focusing on your unique visual needs and discussing treatment options and solutions.

If you have done personal internet research, we also encourage you to share with us the sources before your appointment so that we can attempt to review these before your visit.

I am seeing great, why would I need an eye exam
Several years ago the research firm of Louis Harris and Associates reported that “eighty percent of Americans consider their sight to be their most important sense.”

There are many misconceptions about eye health care, “the most alarming is that most consumers are unaware that most eye diseases have no early warning signs,” according to this research.

Don’t forget your routine eye exam
Routine eye examinations are critical for preventing eye disease. In the early stages of many eye diseases there are no symptoms. A person can see clearly and will not know anything is wrong.

The only way to detect and prevent sight-threatening diseases is through regular eye health examinations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I am worried about having an eye disease? Should I come to your office or call an opthalmologist?

Dr. Farnsworth and Dr. Ayers are trained and licensed to diagnose all eye diseases. If you have an eye infection, glaucoma, foreign body removal, or need pre and/or post care for cataract or refractive surgery, etc.—they are trained to treat it. If surgery or further consultation is indicated, they will recommend a specialist that deals extensively with the condition you may have, so that you will receive the most efficient and highest quality professional care.

Can I stop in to look at your frame selection before I make an appointment?

Certainly, and in fact, many people do this. That will not only allow you to look at our frame selection, but it will also give you an opportunity to “look us over” and hopefully choose us as your family’s vision care specialist. We have a large selection of guaranteed, quality fashion frames. All of our frames have at least a one year guarantee against breakage.

Do I have to get my glasses or contact lenses from you?

No, we will give you a copy of your prescription once the doctor has determined the best one for you. We, of course, would like to provide you with your material needs not only because it is good business for us, but more importantly for you, we can then guarantee the quality of the materials and the service of them. Our most treasured advertiser is you and your satisfaction, therefore we want to do absolutely everything we can to service your needs.

How much does an eye exam cost, and what does it include?

A complete comprehensive visual exam and testing costs $220 for a new patient, $195 for a returning patient, and takes about an hour. The exam includes a discussion of your needs, family and personal health histories, your occupational needs and recreational needs, refractive evaluation to determine your possible visual correction, eye movement test to determine how well your eyes work together, a thorough evaluation of the health of your eyes especially for glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes and high blood pressures’ effect on the vision, and retinal eye diseases.

Do you fit contact lenses?

Yes, we fit all major types of contact lenses including disposables, hard oxygen permeables, soft, extended wear, torics (to correct for astigmatism), bifocals, and cosmetic colored lenses. Our practice is a full service vision practice.

Can I get my glasses adjusted or repaired at your office, even if I am not a patient of yours?

Yes, this is a service we offer to our community. We would be most happy to adjust or repair your spectacles. It is also another opportunity for you to come by and “look us over”!

Can you bill my insurance?

Yes, filing for coverage with insurance companies can be confusing and exasperating at best for anyone. We will be happy to check your benefits and bill your insurance for you.
